Providence Farm is owned and operated by Steve and Carol Miller and daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Tim Miller. Located in Ashe County in the mountains of North Carolina, we are two households on approximately fourteen acres of very rolling land! In 1993, the Millers purchased the property and spent over a year rennovating the one hundred and fifty year old farmhouse and beginning to reclaim the rocky, uncultivated land. Fourteen years later that process is still ongoing, however the goals of independece and sustainability that brought us to this remote corner of Western North Carolina remain the same. It has always been our desire to leave only a small footprint on the land and towards that end, we organically grow and produce as much of our food as possible, cut only dead trees with which to heat our home, and wherever viable patronize local or independent businesses for our supply needs. In recent years we have built a second house on the property for Rebecca and Tim and the newest arrival, Ian Reed Miller. Other new arrivals this spring include: our latest batch of chicks (soon to be efficient layers, we hope!) and three small solar greenhouses already full to the brim with seedlings and crops for the season. Carol and Rebecca meticulously craft all of our food items in our NCDA certified kitchen using many original and old family recipes. Steve and Tim are our expert taste testers! We invite you to share a little of our lifestyle by purchasing one (or many!) of the products listed on our website or visiting us at one of our market locations. |

"...knowing where your food was grown is only the beginning. At a time when our food travels farther than ever before, eating local is not just about geography—it’s about the end of “anonymous food.” It’s about asking how our food was raised, who raised it, and what impact it had on the landscape. Remember, food is still our most intimate connection to the soil and water around us." (Brian Halweil - No More Anonymous Food) |
